About me
Hi, I’m Julie Cardoza, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, Certified EMDR Therapist, and EMDRIA Approved Consultant serving clinicians across the U.S. and Canada.

My professional career is more than 25 years of experience in a diverse range of settings. My approach to therapy is collaborative. You are your own expert; I am a guide. I believe the foundation of any healing is in the therapy relationship and we each hold are part of that relational work. What informs my current work is the context of midlife and whole health, especially for women in the menopause transition (early, natural or induced).
My formal training is broad, spanning from cognitive and mindfulness approaches to advanced trauma evidence-based approaches like EMDR therapy. I have a fluid and integrative style. I practice from a lens of the Somatic-EMDR Therapy. Somatic means leading with the body in therapy and in current times, this is a challenge for all of us, myself included. Yet the body holds ancient wisdom informing everything in keeping us alive, this is duty of the body. Yet our vitality, our quality of life, is from our mind and ability to move forward in life. This is my frame of being a relational-mind-body therapist.

Somatic EMDR therapy
I work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and the intersection of physical and emotional health. Somatic EMDR is a gentle, body-centered approach to healing from difficult experiences. It combines the proven effectiveness of EMDR therapy with attention to what your body is telling you. Through guided protocols and bilateral methods, direct experience, movement and tuning into physical sensations, the approach is about helping your relationships with self, mind and body process stored stress and trauma together, creating new adaptive learning. to move forward in life.
I am a EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist (and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant which means I have achieved a high degree of advanced training and application in EMDR therapy)

Menopause Informed EMDR Therapy
Midlife is a threshold that often presents with many "known" yet "surprising" experiences. For women, this often intersects with the perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause transition, though not always.
My speciality is at the intersection of midlife, trauma, illness and the menopause transition. I offer Menopause Informed Somatic EMDR Therapy. Menopause, whether early, induced (surgical or medication), or natural is a specialization I have been studying for several years. I am additionally certificated as an Integrative Women's Health Institute (IWHI) perimenopause/menopause health coach, along with being a member of the North American Menopause Society. The menopause experience, is a whole relational-mind-body transition .

Being a therapist is demanding and often isolating. I offer trauma-informed consultation, emdr consultation along with menopause informed consultation. I believed in supporting therapists through holding this sacred space and the work of therapy together. Whether seeking to have a space to consult or to become an EMDR certified therapist. For Therapists: EMDR & Trauma Informed Consultation
As therapists we are trained in lifespan development and the psychological, psychosocial and the psychospiritual perspectives of human development, yet there is minimal training available specifically in richness of the midlife transition as a major threshold of physical, emotional and psychological health. , For women, and those born female, there are even less that offer education related to the neuroendocrine transition of menopause, it's intersection with trauma and adverse childhood experiences, diversity and cultural considerations, and neurodiversity. For some, this critical window of vulnerability has long=term psychological, cardiovascular, brain, and other health implications,. The lack of training leaves many with inaccessibility to quality of care.
As a CA Continuing educational provider I offer a limited amount of self-paced courses in these important impacts within women's mental health and midlife mental health. Learn more about courses
