On the outside you look like you have it all together, but on the inside its different. Maybe it's burnout. or depression? Maybe its more subtle, a bland loss of a sense of connection with others, with your work, and your spiritual connection. You may be asking yourself, "Where is the meaning and sense of purpose I once felt?" You may be navigating the effects of midlife, the physical changes, the relational changes, the shift in your once satisfying roles. Something deep within you is calling to be known, seen and understood.
Life keeps going. The tides of change feel out of out of sync with your normal rhythms. You've done therapy. You've talked it out. The strategies that worked before to find the pause between the waves are no longer working for you. You are changing. You're different. evolving. You need a therapist that understands the layers of unraveling and reorganization occurring. You need more than talk, even more than trauma resolution. You need even more than mind-body connection.
You need someone who can hold all these perspectives from an integrative, holistic, trauma based, neurobiological informed lens, and that is also age-informed. You need someone who can help guide and respect your complexity. You need a place to reconnect with your inner being bridging to your outer life.

Hello! I'm Julie
Hi, I'm Julie Cardoza, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (California), Certified EMDR Therapist, and EMDRIA Approved Consultant (US & Canada), with over 25 years of experience in behavioral health, I work with adults navigating life transitions, trauma, anxiety, and the challenge of balancing demanding responsibilities with personal well-being. My approach honors the profound connection between mind and body, recognizing that healing happens when we address both.
An Integrative, Neurobiological Approach
I draw from Neuroscience, Somatic Therapy, Polyvagal-Informed Practices (Nervous System), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to create an integrative and comprehensive framework for emotional well-being. My approach incorporates trauma-informed mindfulness, and breathwork practices from my yoga and somatic practices training and background. I also offer animal-assisted therapy, which can be particularly effective for nervous system regulation and building trust in the therapeutic relationship. I help move beyond talk therapy to experience real, lasting change.
I work with people who are experiencing:
-
Life transitions and identity shifts
-
Trauma and unresolved grief
-
Anxiety, Burnout, Chronic Health Issues and Nervous system dysregulation
-
Patterns of perfectionism, people-pleasing, or self-criticism
-
The intersection of trauma, physical and emotional health especially midlife and women's health

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a evidenced based approach to the treatment of trauma (acute and post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD). Through this method, clients find that painful memories lose their emotional charge, creating space for profound healing and new possibilities. It has also been highly researched and used in the treatment of anxiety, depression, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, attachment issues, complex grief, chronic health and pain. It has been researched to also assist with performance and can be applied with workplace and other stressors.

FLASH Technique is innovative, gentle approach evolved from EMDR to support rapid resolution of specific disturbances. Particularly effective for healthcare professionals and those experiencing ongoing stress or vicarious trauma.
Animal Assisted Therapy
Animal-assisted therapy with Talu, my 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix rescue (AKC Good Citizen/Therapy Dog in Training), provides gentle support for nervous system regulation and building trust. Talu brings his own healing journey to the therapeutic space offering non-judgmental presence that can be especially helpful for those navigating trauma and transitions.
Women's Health in Midlife Therapy
Specialized Training in the emerging field of reproductive mental health. I am specially trained in understanding how hormonal changes during surgical/medical menopause, perimenopause, menopause intersect with nervous system regulation and trauma responses.
